Colour palette: add zing to an all white scheme

A lovely white backdrop, oak wood flooring, and a large expanse of glass overlooking the garden was the starting point for this interior scheme.  Working with a zingy palette of yellow, orange and a touch of blue, this room is punctuated with bright pops of colour, retro patterned prints by Orla Kiely and a nod to the Scandi style with timeless classics such as the Norm 69 pendant light.  Here’s some photos from this design & styling project showing you how to decorate and style your space combining  white walls with a bright and happy colour palette.  These images are interactive, so hover your mouse over or tap the image to find the products.

The gallery wall combines a mix of 3 frame finishes – black, white and oak, filled with black and white photography (find prints like these from independent photographers on  and retro style prints. Frames, artwork and prints displayed like this, easily fills a large expanse of empty wall space and over time it can evolve as the owners add to it with new artwork.

Chunky knits and geometric patterns for floor cushions along with shelves stacked with wooden logs brings in a natural and tactile element.

Styling your shelves with clusters and groupings of objects, books and plants gives a more organised look and adds some accent colour.  Using white on white also works really well, with white porcelain adding shape and form but without going over board on the zing!

And last, but not least, the feature wall never fails to bring a bolt of colour into a room, and is an inexpensive solution for adding pattern and colour to plain walls.  And, if you fancy going in a different style and colour direction in a few years time, you can easily replace the wallpaper and change out the accessories to liven things up.  This wallpaper design, Cow Parsley by Cole & Son,  is a good choice as it has a fresh and sunny feel and will always look modern.

I love anything that incorporates nature and natural materials, so the stacked logs is definitely an idea I’m going to try to recreate!

  2. Love this idea and frame work. The textures and contrast go well together with these ideas. Wonderful!
