It’s hip to hang: Bedside lighting

Hanging a pendant light either side of your bed is a clever and efficient way to provide task or mood lighting in your bedroom (especially when space is at a premium), however, in todays homes, hanging pendant lights are as much a design statement as they are a practical solution and can be found in bedrooms of all sizes.

With shades available in so many different sizes, colors and finishes as well as the huge variety of colorful flex cords and bulbs to choose from, it is easy to see why hanging pendant lights are so popular.

No matter what style of bedroom you have, there is a hanging pendant to suit. For example, exposed bulb pendant lights look great in modern or industrial schemes, wire or cage light pendants convey a more vintage boho look, natural or woven pendants work well in rustic or relaxed beachy schemes and metal pendants can transition from country through to modern interiors.

Nonetheless, it is understandable that not everyone wants to drill holes in their bedroom ceiling and/or hire an electrician, so the good news is, that it is possible to achieve a similar (hanging pendant) look by buying plug-in rope lights and draping them up and over some hooks, a ladder or shelf either side of your bed. Alternatively it is possible to use the existing central light point  and drape two lengths of cord to either side of your bed (as shown below).

Whatever method you choose, the hanging pendant lights are sure to add a level of design sophistication and hotel chic to your bedroom.

Hanging a pendant light over a bedside table is a very good idea, as there is never enough room on mine for a table lamp. Not only is this an effective way of lighting, but I would imagine it can be low budget as well if need be. And, with literally thousands of different shades available, it should be very easy to find something to match up to any bedroom.
