Eclectic Boho Modern Mix – Brisbane Design Destination

With it’s fabulous climate, laid back lifestyle, and emerging interior design scene, Brisbane (the fastest growing capital city in Australia), is definitely a place to put on your design trip ‘Down Under’ itinerary.

During my recent visit to Brisbane, I hunted down my favorite interior design hotspots and will continue to share these with you over the coming months (see previous posts:  Magnolia Interiors and Anna Spiro’s – Black and Spiro store).

One of my finds included the delightful Kova Lifestyle  store (with its eclectic boho vibe and modern twist). I chatted with Director, Bianca De Luca about her personal style and am happy to give you a glimpse into her store.

Image: Despite it’s pint-sized exterior, there was much design candy inside this compact interior and lifestyle boutique.

What makes Brisbane different to the design in other cities in Australia?

Bianca: Brisbane has a different climate to the rest of Australia (a warm, sunny, beach climate), and I think our lifestyle and design adapts accordingly.

Image: With an assortment of linens and textiles sourced from around the word, to beachy and equestrian accents, this is truly an eclectic mix.

DLB: Describe your personal design style / design aesthetic?

Bianca: Definitely eclectic, I like to mix a bit of everything, my belief is if you love it, you can make it work, even if it takes time.

Image: This beautiful Australian made ‘Mud Australia‘ porcelain packs a punch. Each piece is entirely handmade in Sydney. Comes in bright colors and pretty pastels. The perfect choice for zinging up a neutral colored kitchen.

What is about Kova Lifestyle that your customers like?

Bianca: We endeavor to offer something for almost every corner of your home and yourself. We believe in surrounding yourself with beautiful things – it puts a skip in our step and hopefully our customers too.

What are the resources you turn to for design inspiration.

Bianca: Travel – I love to travel and try to at any given opportunity, although this has slowed since having my son 6 months ago.
My family –  I have five sisters and we are constantly discussing our design loves.

Image Right: I love the mid century vibe to this open side table, made from hardwood with a teak finish – such a versatile piece!

What are you looking forward to in the future?

Bianca: More travel, with my husband and son.
We have recently renovated our backyard so we are looking forward to spending the whole summer out there!

Name three of your favorite things to do or see in Brisbane

Bianca: Cruise the river;  alfresco dining (there is always a new restaurant opening); and sit back and enjoy the weather, (glass of wine optional or necessary, I haven’t decided).

“I love the Brisbane lifestyle and everything it has to offer”, says Bianca De Luca, Director of Kova Lifestyle.

I couldn’t agree more.
