Vitra 2014 Collection – Bright, bold & graphic

Modern lines, abstract graphics and colorful fabrics dominate Vitra’s new 2014 collection of furnishings launched at Salone Del Mobile in Milan. Vitra reissued timeless pieces from renowned designers like Alex Girard, launched new products by designers Edward Barber, Jay Osgerby and Hella Jongious amongst others and expanded their color library of fabrics, giving many of their classic design pieces a fresh new look.  Some of our favorite products from Vitra’s 2014 collection include:
Vitra bought back some of Alexander Girard’s most famous pieces by reissuing his: Color Wheel Ottoman in two new color versions (first  designed in 1967); Graphic print Wool Blankets; and Environmental Enrichment Panels which can be displayed as large pieces of art (first designed in 1971).  These screen printed fabric panels which were originally designed to add warmth, color and emotion to office environments in the 50’s would be a perfect addition to any modern home interior today.
Vitra also launched two new products by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby that caught our attention for their functionality and form. The Mariposa Sofa which has an adjustment mechanism making it possible to individually tilt the side and backrest elements for various sitting or reclining positions; and Planophorea dual-purpose room divider and book shelf. Vertical aluminum panels can be rotated to serve as functional shelf dividers.
We love the Hopsak color combinations of the fabulous NEW East River Chair.  Hella Jongerius says ‘The story of Hopsak is about creating something new not only by interweaving two different colors, but also by linking design history with today’s sensibility and by uniting the industrial world of the office with the softness of the home.
A classic Eames chair with a twist!  Vitra has reissued these lighter frame aluminum chairs and presented them in the new range of duotone Hopsak fabric colors to give this classic design, wider appeal to both commercial and residential interiors.
Vitra re-issued a collection of Graphic Print pillows, which bear Alex Girard’s signature abstract graphics and figurative motifs. Designed in 1961, his motifs were inspired by folk art sources with abstract patterns. The designs are as current today as they were when they were originally designed.
