YOO Home launches at Harrods
Global design brand YOO has launched its first furniture collection in Harrods, London’s iconic department store. Over the last 15 years YOO has designed hundreds of homes and hotels around the world and this is the first time its in-house designed furniture is available for retail. Around 160 pieces complete the curated YOO Home collection which is themed into Classic, Nature, Minimal and Culture. Within each theme is a mix of in-house designs by YOO Studio, collaborations with Sean Dare, Bethan Gray and Jon Male for YOO’s Best of British, plus furniture from iconic design houses including Boffi, Moooi, Droog and Fritz Hansen.
At the launch, John Hitchcox, co-founder of YOO (Philippe Starck also co-founder) demonstrated the YOO Styler an internet-based room designer. Customers can create their own 2D floor plans adding chosen furniture pieces and switch into a 3D visual with just one tap on a large table-top touchscreen. Inside the virtual room move the camera around to see furniture from every angle and all of this is projected onto a huge 5 metre screen. Everything in the YOO Home collection is made-to-order so there’s fun to be had with customising some of the pieces such as choosing a different paint colour for the legs on the marble topped console.
The retail environment created by YOO within Harrods is refreshingly different from your standard shop floor set-up. Yes, there are room-sets grouped into themes but the entire space is contained within its own four walls and it felt like I’d stepped inside a luxe-industrial style warehouse apartment – a place to hang out and stay for a while. Painted in dark grey with black crittall-style internal windows dividing up the space, blink twice and you could be in a stylish home in Shoreditch.
Here’s some of my favourite picks from across the 4 themes including some on-trend marble pieces. Also below are photos from the official launch.
