An Artist Hotel: The Larwill

Imagine a hotel designed by artists for artists, where guests can have an art inspired experience. Pretty cool concept don’t you think? Well that’s what Australia’s Art Series Hotels are all about. The most recent addition to this collection of hotels is The Larwill Studio in Melbourne. The Larwill is dedicated to Australia’s neo-expressionist artist David Larwill and draws inspiration from his studio. There are currently a further five boutique Art Series Hotels in Australia, each celebrating the work of different modern Australian artists (including The Olsen, The Cullen, The Blackman, The Watson and The Schaller Studio) and more planned to open in the future.

The hotel provides guests with an art-inspired experience including private tours with an in-house art curator, a dedicated art channel and art library in every suite.  Art utensils are available for you to get creative and works of art by David Larwill are also available for purchase.

Bright, playful Larwill books and artwork feature throughout the hotels public and private areas and are complimented by the contemporary furnishings.

Bedrooms (aptly named ‘workspaces’ at the Larwill) are decorated with bright accents and graphic patterns inspired by the vibrant works of Larwill, which use movement and colour to create a emotional response in the viewer. Quotes such as ‘Live Intensely’ and ‘Put Your Heart Into It’ printed on the pillows, help set the tone for this hotel.

We love the small design details which help set this hotel apart from others, including the blue wire cage pendant lights with a contrasting yellow cord hang over the Skandi style side tables (rather than the usual lamp on a 2-drawer bedside table).
